ENERGY RATING (BER) CERTIFICATION As of 1 Jan 2009 all buildings offered for sale or lease have to have an energy rating certificate. This is now a legal requirement. Sorry, you have no choice. This will be similar to the type of rating to be found on washing machines and freezers etc. It will indicate the energy efficiency of the building concerned. Ratings will range from A to G. The responsibility to supply such a certificate will rest on the vendor or lessor of a property. It is likely that a good energy rating will be attractive to buyers. We recommend that sellers bear this in mind and if considering renovations, then energy saving strategies should be considered. these include extra insulation, solar panels etc. As the price of fuel increases, energy efficiency will be an increasingly important issue. Grants may be available in some cases.
